Giving Back to Oakland

Gallagher & Burk is grateful to be a long-standing member of the Oakland Community for more than 70 years, and we take great pride in our community involvement. Through the years, we have given generously to many local charitable organizations that work selflessly to make a difference in the lives of Oaklanders.  Getting to know the leaders and staff members of these non-profits and the people they serve has enriched our lives and we hope our contributions make a difference in the lives of many others.

Here are some of our 5-star organizations that we contribute to annually:

Since 1991, as mentors, youth leaders, counselors, case managers, intervention specialists, and violence interrupters, we at Youth ALIVE! have worked to help violently wounded people heal themselves and their community. Our mission is to break the cycle of violence and uplift a thriving community of leaders rooted in Oakland and beyond through prevention, intervention, healing and advocacy. We believe that young people growing up and going to school in the city’s most violent neighborhoods possess the power to change the city for the better.

Founded in 1883, Lincoln Families disrupts cycles of poverty and trauma, empowering children and families to build strong futures in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Our approach is simple: we provide children with support and services as early as possible and make programs available to them during their school years through high school graduation. These services go hand in hand with programming that engages families and communities to create sustaining impacts.

A strategic priority of Epsilon Beta Boule (EBB) is to identify and provide  support, including scholarships, to young African American  males with potential to become part of our Future Leaders Program (FLP). There is a definite need for such a program in the African American Community, which invests in the future of the African American Community, one young man at a time.  The FLP and EBB, in partnership with One Hundred Black men of the Bay Area (100BM), seek to provide scholarships and support to young African American men in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, also known as STEM.  – Jake Sloan
